Power
About Power
Although female athletes have made significant progress in recent years, they are still often overlooked and under-represented in the media. The media has an important role to play in promoting diversity and inclusion in sport. Portraying women athletes in a better light in the media is important for promoting gender equality, inspiring girls and women, increasing visibility, promoting diversity and inclusion and encouraging investment in women’s sport. The POWER project aims to address the issues of gender inequality in sports journalism and the media and to contribute to the promotion of an unbiased and non-stereotyped representation of women athletes in the media.
This project will have as their main activities:
- Collect and analyse up-to-date data on the representation of women athletes in the media and press in all partner countries;
- Develop a comprehensive strategy and guidelines for equitable representation of women athletes in the media and press, adapted to national realities in all partner countries;
- Carry out training with journalists, journalism students, media professionals, bloggers and content creators, and the staff of sports organisations working in the communications department, on how to adopt the updated guidelines and promote gender equality in sport through their work;
- Raise awareness of the equal representation of women athletes and challenge any gender stereotypes that exist in the sports industry.
