Katautism

Katautism was a European project focused on adapting judo and martial arts to the needs of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Building on earlier pilot experiences in Italy, which involved children from several regions and showed positive behavioural, relational and motor adaptations, the project aimed to strengthen the use of inclusive judo as a structured and evidence-based approach for supporting autistic children.

The project focused on the specialised training of judo coaches, helping them understand both the technical aspects of judo and the specific needs of children with ASD. Through theoretical training, practical sessions, school-based exercises and activities with autistic children supported by specialised tutors and professionals, Katautism created a training pathway that helped coaches adapt judo practice, promote inclusion and contribute to the wellbeing and development of children with ASD and their families.
