Green Footprint Lightening on sports Activities, Management, and Events

About Green Footprint Lightening on sports Activities, Management, and Events - Green FLAME

Green Footprint Lightening on sports Activities, Management, and Events – Green FLAME was an Erasmus+ project coordinated by the Spanish Olympic Committee, focused on promoting sustainability in sport and supporting the transition towards more environmentally responsible and climate-neutral sport events. The project aimed to involve not only sport managers and policymakers, but also fans and citizens, encouraging all stakeholders in the sport ecosystem to adopt more sustainable behaviours.

The project combined the expertise of Olympic committees, research and innovation institutions, sport organisations and a specialised SME to place technology at the centre of sustainability action in sport. Through the development of the Sport Go Green app, an online educational programme and a MOOC, the project supported sport managers in assessing sustainability indicators, calculating carbon footprints and applying evidence-based strategies to reduce environmental impact, while also raising awareness among fans about their role in creating a greener sport culture.
