ENHANCE
About ENHANCE
This project aims to assess, sensitise and educate grassroots esports players and their parents/carers to the social side (risks and benefits) of the competitive gaming environment. Our model is fulfilled by an in-depth analysis of the social risks and benefits of online gaming among European gamers (14-18 years old), followed by a learning approach to raise awareness and educate them; and through the development of an Observatory to prevent toxic behaviour and promote pro-social behaviours, networks and creative practices in online gaming environments. More specifically, this project will address the Erasmus+ programme (2021-2027) within the framework of the Digital Education Action Plan and, in particular, the European Youth and Sport Strategy, in order to engage, connect and empower the community of young gamers through: a) knowledge, skills and attitudes on the social side of video games in EU countries (e.g. raising awareness of violent behaviour, reducing debauchery, insult, racism, cracking down on homophobic comments and hate speech, etc. ); and b) pro-social and creative behaviour of young gamers through digital networks and support in order to learn, exchange ideas, share experiences and co-design their social interactions in the real world.
This project has three main objectives:
- Creating a self-assessment tool to identify and categorise toxic behaviour in the online gaming environment.
- Developing pedagogical tools to train young players and their parents/educators about the online gaming environment.
- Creating the ‘Esports Social Observatory’ and measuring the effects of pedagogical tools over time.
