Best
BEST was a European project focused on promoting the inclusion of young people aged 13 to 16 with physical disabilities through an innovative approach combining esports and traditional sport. The project explored esports as an inclusive tool capable of bringing young people together around a shared interest, regardless of their physical condition, while also using this connection to reduce sport dropout rates and reconnect young people with disabilities to grassroots sport activities.
The project was built around the concept of BEST VILLAGES, local and transnational events that combined esports games, integrated sport competitions, educational activities and awareness-raising moments for young people, families and sport operators. By creating spaces where young people with and without disabilities could participate and compete under equal conditions, BEST promoted social inclusion, solidarity and the idea of “sport for all”, while contributing to a more inclusive European society.
Main Objectives
- Established a strong project governance structure to ensure active participation, quality work and shared ownership of the results;
- Promoted knowledge sharing between partners on the connection between esports, traditional sport and social inclusion;
- Developed and tested the innovative BEST VILLAGE format as a replicable model for inclusion through sport;
- Organised local and transnational BEST VILLAGES combining esports, sport competitions and educational activities;
- Strengthened the role of grassroots sport in reducing marginalisation and sport dropout among young people with disabilities;
- Created and formalised a transnational network to disseminate the BEST VILLAGE model across Europe;
- Implemented a focused dissemination strategy to increase visibility, transfer results and maximise community impact.
