About Voice for Equality and Rights of Women Athletes - VERA
Voice for Equality and Rights of Women Athletes – VERA was a European collaborative partnership focused on promoting social inclusion, diversity and the protection of women athletes’ rights in sport. The project created an international network of organisations committed to improving the level of protection, respect and recognition given to women athletes, contributing to a fairer, more equal and more supportive sporting environment across Europe.
The project raised awareness about the value of gender equality and diversity in sport, while strengthening cooperation between athletes, former athletes, organisations and professionals working to support women athletes’ rights. Through advocacy, mentoring, training, networking and the creation of a European platform for exchange, V.E.R.A. produced several outputs and organised national and transnational events that promoted empowerment, representation and practical solutions to common challenges faced by women athletes.
Main Objectives
- Improved protection, support and representation for women athletes;
- Raised awareness about women athletes’ fundamental rights and professional recognition;
- Promoted gender equality and diversity as added value for sport;
- Created a European platform for athletes, organisations and professionals;
- Strengthened the exchange of good practices and solutions to common challenges;
- Promoted mentoring and mutual support between athletes and professionals;
- Encouraged blended training and multi-professional cooperation;
- Supported the empowerment of women athletes and organisations working for their rights.
